Judge Learned Hand Award Dinner Honoring Simeon M. Kriesberg
AJC Washington honored Simeon M. Kriesberg, AJC Washington Region Executive Officer and partner at Mayer Brown LLP, with the 2010 Judge Learned Hand Award.  Named for the legendary US judge and legal philospher, the award is given annually to a member of the legal profession who has combined extraordinary professional accomplishments with distinguished community service.

Ambassador's Forum Series: Luncheon with Her Excellency Carolina Barco
Over 40 AJC members attended a luncheon forum at the residence of Colombian Ambassador to the US, Her Excellency Carolina Barco. The luncheon was part of the Regional Office's Ambassadors' Forum Series, a centerpiece of AJC Washington's diplomatic outreach efforts that provides countless interesting exchanges between Ambassadors and AJC leadership.

Indian Embassy Hanukkah Reception
AJC Board members joined other leaders from the DC Jewish community at the Indian Embassy's Annual Hanukkah party, hosted by Ambassador Meera Shankar at her residence.  Nissim Reuben, AJC's Program Director of Indian-Jewish American Relations, helped to coordinate the event; Dov Zakheim, National Chair of AJC's International Relations Commission, and Andy Marks, President of AJC's Washington Regional Office, offered brief remarks on behalf of AJC.

America's Table: Annual Thanksgiving Diversity Luncheon 
AJC Washington hosted its annual program which celebrates pluralism and the diverse roots that enrich America. The luncheon brought together AJC leaders and partners from DC's diverse ethnic and religious communities. The program featured Maria Teresa Kumar, Executive Director and Co-Founder of Voto Latino.

November 17, 2009, 8:00pm 
"Being Indian, Being Israeli: Migration, Culture and Identity Among Indian Jews in Israel" 

Over 100 guests attended an AJC Washington co-sponsored book talk at American University featuring Dr. Maina Singh, Clenondon Scholar-in-residence at AU and comments by Sally Oren, wife of the Israeli Ambassador to the United States. This event introduced Maina Chawla Singh's new book Being Indian, Being Israeli: Migration, Ethnicity and Gender in the Jewish Homeland.

AJC Washington Annual Meeting and Installation of Board Members
Approximately 100 AJC members and partners jointed the Washington Regional Office at its Annual Meeting held at Washington Hebrew Congregation.  The event featured Senator Benjamin Cardin and the installation of current regional office President Andrew H. Marks.

Rally for Freedom in Iran
AJC joined the JCRC, members of Congress, religious leaders, and many other organizations and individuals in a rally to support the people of Iran and to stand together for freedom, democracy and peace.  The rally took place in Farragut Square Park in Washington, DC.

Reflections on Israel: A Conversation with Rev. Derrick Harkins and Rabbi Gary Greenebaum
AJC hosted a luncheon on Thursday, September 17 featuring speakers Rev. Dr. Derrick Harkins, Senior Pastor, Nineteenth Street Baptist Church, and Rabbi Gary Greenebaum, AJC's U.S. Director for Interreligious Affairs. Dr. Harkins recently visited Israel with Project Interchange, an institute of AJC that hosts educational seminars in Israel.
